Change Default Save As Option

Is there a way to change the default file extension that comes up when you try to save a scanned document (using the plugin) to .pdf from .jpg? Even changing the default for every save would be fine with me. Thank you for your time and your responses.

Perhaps the command-line would suit you better for a scanned image? Although, I doubt it would save you time over changing the format in the dialog. For one image, I'm sure it can't be that bad to choose pdf in the drop-down. You could do a batch scan as well for the one image, but again it probably wouldn't be a time-saver re-opening it.

matera is definitely correct that this behavior occurs. This is unfortunate in your case, since it keeps changing as you use the program for other tasks.

I checked the ini file, and found the entry responsible for the format setting is stored in SaveIndex, in section [Others]. Values 1-21 are used, which correspond to the position in the format drop-down list. So if you want, you could edit this entry to 15 (PDF) and use this ini for your scans.

The initial default format for the Save as dialog is 1 (BMP). All other dialogs (capture, batch, scan, etc.) appear to be controlled by other settings, but the initial default is JPG.

I installed version 4.25 under xp and could not figure out how to set *.jpg as the default Save As file type, *.bmp is the default. I edited "C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.ini" because I installed irfanview with the same settings for all users, but *I think* the default location is C:\documents and settings\YourProfileName\Application Data\Irfanview\i_view32.ini

There was only one SaveIndex= in my i_view32.ini file but it was for slide shows only, not still images so I had to type that entry under [Others] and then close and restart ifranview. no log off, no reboot necessary.
